Q: The black coating on my Aussie tags seems to be wearing off, is there something I can do to stop this?
A: These tags are made from brass then chemically blackened. Some peoples skin types react differently to others however the black will always wear off just faster with some people rather than others. To avoid this we recommend you purchase some matt laquer in a spray tin from a hardware store and spray your tags so they have a clear coating. This will prevent the black wearing thin and eventually off. If you prefer the aged patina look then just leave as is and eventually the brass will begin showing through.

Q: The black coating on my chains seems to be wearing off, is there something I can do to stop this?
A: We specifically only offer stainless steel chains with our sets of tags. This is because stainless steel does not react with peoples skin however some people prefer the brass/black/Nickel Plated Steel options however these chain options will sometimes react with the wearers skin. We cannot guarantee that these chains will not react with some skin types therefore if you order these chains then we do not replace if you have a reaction. Our advice is to use stainless steel.

Q: I want to order extra silencers but if I order one, do I get one for each of the tags for my set, eg 2?
A: Because we offer both single sets and double sets of tags, when your order extra silencers we sell them individually. That means if you have bought a single tag set and you want an extra silencer then order one. If you have purchased a 2 tag set then you will need to change the quantity to 2.

Q: Can I mix 'n' match the silencer colours?
A: Yes you can but you will need to purchase the "premium' set option. In the comments box at checkout just leave a message that you would like the different colour.

Q: I have purchased some dog tags before but this time the stainless steel finish looks slightly different?
A: Genuine U.S. military dog tags are manufactured to Defense Department specifications. The current issue tags have been using the same specifications since the 1960's. Since then there have been many changes in the manufacturing processes of stainless steel. There is currently no specification for what finish the US Defense department will accept so manufacturers supply slight variations in finish depending on where the blank material is sourced from. This does not affect the quality of the tags produced however some tags may be slightly more shiny than others. Oze-iD will always provide the best genuine tags available and will supply the closest match to the finish ordered as possible.

Q: What can be printed on dog tags?
A: It's up to you. You can have anything you want embossed on dog tags. You may choose to have your tags printed the same way as the military see our Formats page. However, you can personalize the text on your dog tag to include anything. It may include personal information, a message, medical information, advertising, promotions, property information, etc. We WILL NOT personalize tags with profanity however.

Q: Why have more than just one tag?
A: In our experience tags have numerous uses and in case of loss it saves you having to reorder a new set. The military issues two dog tags per soldier. The reason is that in the situation of a soldier being killed in combat, one tag would stay with the soldier (usually on the smaller chain, called a toe tag, the other would go to next of kin). Obviously, you would not need two tags for such a purpose. However, with two tags then you may tag other items like your luggage or backpack or share similar messages with a friend or loved one.

Top

Q: What if I want to print different messages on each tag?
A: Yes you can have different text on both of the tags, you just need to choose either the "Military Specification" or "Premium" option and fill in both of the text boxes on the order page.

Top

Q: Can I have my tags embossed with UPPER CASE and lower case letters?
A: All genuine Dog Tags can only be embossed using UPPER CASE letters. Our embossing is done on the same type of machinery used by both the Australian and U.S. military and the embossing font is identical to the case and style letters used by both the Australian and U.S. military.

Q: I ordered my tags on line. Do I get a receipt for my order?
A: Yes, once your order has been processed you will receive a confirmation email. This is your confirmation that we have accepted your order and have begun scheduling the making of your custom Dog Tag set. Receipts/confirmations are processed within 24 hours of placing an order.

Q: I placed my order on line and paid with Paypal but did not receive a receipt or order confirmation and my order does not say its PAID, why?
A: The reason is because you may have clicked out of the Paypal website before it finished processing all the required information. You must wait for Paypal to redirect you back to our website so the transaction is fully processed. By doing this your order will take longer to be processed due to the extra checks we will then have to make to confirm payment.

Q: When will my order be shipped?
A: Once you have received your receipt/confirmation, we strive to ship orders within 48 hours. During peak seasons (holidays) or for special promotions orders it may take a little longer. We will contact you should we need additional time. We do offer overnight express shipping for a small surcharge in the case of emergencies. Please Note that delivery times are the responsibility of Australia post and Oze-iD has no control over postage times once delivered to Australia Post.

Q: What are silencers?
A: They are rubber edged guards designed to fit around the outer edges of the dog tag. It keeps the tags silent. As a result of the wide selection of colours, they add a fashion flair in addition to keeping your tags from being noisy. Silencers are NOT genuine military issue.

Top

Q: Can silencers be removed from my tags?
A: Yes, it is very easy. Just remove the tag from your chain, then gently pull the silencer off the tag. That's it! Please Note: you need to be careful when removing or installing silencers. They are made of silicone and are delicate so you need to take care. Oze-iD tests all silencers before sending and will not replace broken silencers if you decide to either put them on or take them off the metal Dog Tags. Bottom line is you need to be careful!

Q: What are the most popular silencer colours?
A: Most people order their tags with black silencers. Most military personnel use black silencers, however, we offer a wide selection of colours, including blue, grey, light green, orange, red, yellow, multi coloured and clear. Children really like the colour selection as do many adults. To see our selection visit our Order Information page. Latest arrivals are the Flame, Vulcan, Red Camo and Blue Camo silencers!

Q: Which type of dog tag does the U.S. military use?
A: The military generally uses the dull or matt finish stainless steel. Our genuine tags are all sourced from manufacturers in the USA and are made of either stainless steel in a shiny or dull finishes, Black stainless or the original metal used for dogtags, brass. Please Note: only the shiny or dull stainless tags are from the manufacturer that supplies the US Military. Black and Brass tags are made in the USA however these tags are not manufactured by the same US Department of Defense contractor. Due to public demand we have now added coloured stainless steel tags to our available range which are popular for children and your pets. These tags are not suitable to be embossed but either laser engraved or manually engraved. Latest arrivals are Aluminium GI Dog Tags that are suitable for both forms of engraving.

Q: Will the solid brass dog tags tarnish?
A: Yes, they will tarnish. Many of our customers prefer the patina that aged brass obtains over time. However, if you prefer a high gloss gold like shine, we recommend using Brasso or Silvo Polish. It works great. To see exact pictures of any of our dog tags, please visit our product information page.

Q: What is the difference between emboss and indent printing on dog tags?
A: Each of the printing processes use a stamp and cannot be produced by engraving (scratching the surface). The emboss and indent processes are longer lasting than engraving. Emboss means the letters are raised up from the surface like on your credit cards while indenting dog tags, the original stamping process used on dog tags, means that the letters are pressed downward into the metal.

Top

Q: Okay, so which style of printing does the military use? Emboss or Indent?
A: Both the U.S. and Australian military previously used the indent methods however as old machinery is replaced in the U.S. embossing machines have taken over as the preferred method. Australia currently only embosses identification tags as it provides a much improved tag for identification purposes.

Q: I am getting an error when I have paid using Paypal online saying to contact the merchant?
A: When you set up your account on Paypal, you have elected not to use your credit card but set up to have the money deducted using a direct credit facility. Oze-iD does not accept payments via this method because Oze-iD is charged an extra fee by Paypal for this service. We DO accept direct credit payments but you will need to make the payment via your Bank to ours. This normally takes anywhere from 12 hours to 3 days to clear and we have no control over the time it takes for the Banks to transfer.
